UMW

umw.jpgThe United Methodist Women is an organization whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

The RHUMW currently has three circles offered on various days and at various times. You are invited to visit as many as you see that fit your schedule. Programs, studies, and mission projects vary with each circle. They are as follows:

  • Circle of Joy
Meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the homes of members. This group is made up young to middle aged working ladies. Their programs also vary from month to month. Call Andrea Balio, 727-2326 or Peggy Dixon, 756-2238.
  • Circle of Friendsumw2.jpg
Meets on the fourth Friday at 9:00 a.m. in the Curry Annex at the church or at Richmond Hill Cafe. This group is mostly made up of younger to middle aged stay at home moms. This circle presents a Cradle Cross from the UMW to each baby (one year old and under) baptized in our church. Also, Circle of Friends does offer a nursery. They create UMCOR Kits occasionally and have a spring fundraiser for one of the three So. Ga. Mission Agencies-Wesley Community Center in Savannah, Vashti in Thomasville, and Open Door Community House in Columbus. Call Janet Lott at 727-5629.
  • Circle of Hop
Meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at Magnolia Manor, 2:00 P.M.  This circle is a group of retired women, some of whom live at the Manor.  Membership is not   exclusive to Manor residents.  Contact Nancy McAuley, 756-5126 or Sara Thomasson, 756-2460.

The UMW Unit meets on a quarterly basis for programs such as ‘The Call to Prayer and Self Denial”, “World Thank Offering Program”, “The Pledge Service”, etc. Each spring or early summer there is a Tea that welcomes new members into the unit and also in December a UMW banquet for members and spouses. In December, the unit also provides fruit baskets or poinsettias for the shut-ins of the church and some who need TLC. The youth of the church usually deliver these for the UMW. Our unit is also involved in a voluntary READING PROGRAM with members reading from the UMW Reading List.

All ladies of the church/community are invited to come and be a part of any of the circles or activities that best fit your needs. Membership in this church, or even a United Methodist Church, is NOT required. All you need do is commit yourself to The Purpose and make your desire to join known. If you do not want to be part of a circle that meets monthly, you can be a Member at Large, attending quarterly at the Unit Meetings. Also, membership does NOT require financial obligations. An opportunity to make a yearly Pledge to Mission is offered, that we may help the work of United Methodist Women in this country and around the world. Making this pledge is not required.

Please visit our circles and become part of our fellowship, as we strive to make a difference in the lives of women, children, and youth the world over. Feel free to call me with any questions or comments. We go forward and Jesus taught us, caring for those who need His tender love. I pray as you read this that God will touch your heart and you will know that His love is truly great and magnificent.
