Music
Our goals in the Ministry of Music are to beautify and enhance Worship through music; to educate our children in the function of music in Worship and to further their Christian faith and education through the texts of hymns and anthems; and to give opportunities for fellowship and service to all members of the church through God’s gift of music. Music opportunities are always available to new members, and we encourage everyone in the congregation to participate, the only requirement being a true desire to be of regular and dedicated service. Soli Deo Gloria!
Chancel Choir The Chancel Choir offers musical leadership in the 9:00 and 11:00 Sanctuary services each week. We rehearse at 7:15 Wednesday nights preparing Psalms, Anthems and Hymnody for worship. We also prepare for special services throughout the church year, Lessons and Carols, Christmas Eve and Good Friday services to name just a few. For several years running we’ve enjoyed a weekend retreat where the only agenda is music, food and fun. We sing a wide variety of music and look forward to you joining us. The Adult Handbell Choir prepares special music and hymn accompaniments for use in Worship. We perform approximately once a month from August through May and practice Thursday nights at 5:00 p.m. We’ve recently added a 3rd octave of handbells and look forward to expanding the size of this group to fully utilize these new instruments. Those who can read music are welcome but this skill is not necessary as we are all learning and working together to Praise God with his fair and glorious gift to us; Music! The Youth Handbell Choir rehearses Wednesday nights at 5:00 p.m. We prepare anthems and work on our sight-reading and musical skills. We help lead with music in Worship approximately once a month throughout the year. Learning the role of worship leader as well as developing musical and ensemble skills are important elements of the Youth Handbell experience. Rather than sink or swim teaching this group works on music until its ready to share and is always aware that advancement to the Youth Handbell Choir is the natural goal of the Handchimer!
