Born in June of 1948 in Waycross, Georgia, Bill is a native of South Georgia. BillNewHe graduated from high school in Wheeler County and received degrees from Young Harris College (A.A.) in 1968 and Asbury College (B.A.) in 1970. He is also a 1972 graduate of Candler School of Theology at Emory University where he earned his Master of Divinity Degree.

After experiencing a call to ministry in May of 1966, he was licensed to preach by the Alamo Methodist Church in 1968. In 1973 he was ordained an Elder in the United Methodist Church. Since that time Bill has served the following churches: Stapleton (1971-1973), Tennille (1974-1975), Talbotton (1976-1979), St. John in Columbus (1980-1988), First United Methodist in Vidalia (1989-1998), Perry United Methodist Church (1999-2002) and Richmond Hill United Methodist (2003-present). Our pastor writes a column on worship entitled “When We Gather” for the Wesleyan Christian Advocate.

Bill is married to the former Lynn Sparks of Portal, Georgia. They have been married since 1970 and have two daughters, Jennifer and Leslie, both of whom are teachers. Bill has two grandchilden, Will and Josh.
